Chocolate Cake and a book review

I baked a chocolate cake! This is the second cake I have ever baked. I baked one for my ex for his birthday. This cake is way better. Because...1.it is chocolate with milk chocolate icing 2.the boyf doesn't like sweet things so I have to eat all of it..damn.
It has been raining for the last two days. I went outside to see how the plants are doing and some are really sprouting up. They needed that rain. They were thirsty.
I finished a really good book last night. "The Glass Castle" by Jeanette Walls. I highly recommend it. It is a memoir.
Here is a review that I agree with from bookbrowse.com:

"Jeannette Walls grew up with parents whose ideals and stubborn nonconformity were both their curse and their salvation. Rex and Rose Mary Walls had four children. In the beginning, they lived like nomads, moving among Southwest desert towns, camping in the mountains. Rex was a charismatic, brilliant man who, when sober, captured his children's imagination, teaching them physics, geology, and above all, how to embrace life fearlessly. Rose Mary, who painted and wrote and couldn't stand the responsibility of providing for her family, called herself an "excitement addict." Cooking a meal that would be consumed in fifteen minutes had no appeal when she could make a painting that might last forever.

Later, when the money ran out, or the romance of the wandering life faded, the Walls retreated to the dismal West Virginia mining town -- and the family -- Rex Walls had done everything he could to escape. He drank. He stole the grocery money and disappeared for days. As the dysfunction of the family escalated, Jeannette and her brother and sisters had to fend for themselves, supporting one another as they weathered their parents' betrayals and, finally, found the resources and will to leave home.

What is so astonishing about Jeannette Walls is not just that she had the guts and tenacity and intelligence to get out, but that she describes her parents with such deep affection and generosity. Hers is a story of triumph against all odds, but also a tender, moving tale of unconditional love in a family that despite its profound flaws gave her the fiery determination to carve out a successful life on her own terms.

For two decades, Jeannette Walls hid her roots. Now she tells her own story."

It is such an inspiring story. She was on Craig Ferguson and was able to keep up with his sarcasm and made him laugh. That alone tells so much about her character!!

I hate littererssss!!!

I walked into "town" today. I had to get one of those tax-book-thingys. It took me about 35 minutes to get downtown. Pretty good. Went for a coffee at the local cafe/flower shop.(!?) Yeah, B-ville has two of them? Weird. It is middleage/old lady central. It is fun to sit, listen, and write down the weird things that they say. They are so different than my age group. Compliment your face/talk behind your back. Yikes!
When I was walking I was really appalled at all of the garbage on the side of the road. Where does it come from? People walking? I think it is the people driving by. They throw it out the window!! Horrible. When I go for a walk on the side road by my house there are beercans or empty mickeys every 10 feet or so. Huh? why? Seems strange. I picture a single man in a pick up truck. He is on his way home from?...somewhere....and he likes to drink....and drive. Vodka and beer relax him....driving stressed him out. Yikes...maybe I shouldn't pick a different road. Would it be crazy if I took a bag and wore some gloves on my next walk? Do my part. I hate seeing the garbage. Makes me angry. DAMN YOU GARBAGE!!!
whoa. okay...
Tomorrow I am going to take some pics of the garden. I still have to cut out some weeds and hoe it up.
So the other night I let Frank outside. He was out for awhile and it was getting dark out. I went to the back door...not there, the front door...not there. So I went to the side of the house, calling his name. He was over at the neighbours. He was lying on their front steps, like it was his house. When I called his name he came running and meowing. It was like he knew he was doing something wrong. Funny cat.

Spring is on its way!!!

I am very excited about springtime. The last week has been beautiful and sunny everyday. This weekend is supposed to be 7 degrees! For the first time ever I am going to garden this year. I have never had the space, always in an apartment. I've always wanted to grow herbs and flowers. I have two flower beds at the side of the house. Both get lots of sun and are a nice size. The smaller one is going to be veggies and fuit. The larger one is going to be flowers. I am not sure yet what plants I want to grow. I need to remember to keep it simple. I always have big ideas but then overwhelm myself. I am trying to change that in every area of my life. I will take pictures of the garden and let you know how it is going. Hopefully there won't be too many hiccups. Of course, keep in mind I know nothing about gardening!!
