Lots of progress in the garden

The beans are growing like weeds! We will see some beans soon! Beans and dill...yep those beans are gettin' dilled! I replanted the hot pepper plants in coffee cans. I save any sort of reusable container. It's not hoarding if I reuse them, dammit! Check out that hot pepper. Looks good! I can't wait to eat this stuff! Get into my belly!

Check out the dill!!

It's raining, it's raining!!

It's raining. Boo.
So today I will continue my journey through Romantic Comedies (rom-coms). Last night I watched 'When in Rome'. It wasn't horrible but I probably won't watch it again. Today I am going to watch 'Leap year'. I am kind of looking forward to that one, I like Amy Adams. She was excellent in 'Enchanted'. I also downloaded 'My-so-called Life', I watched it religiously when I was a teen. I loved everything about that show. I really would love to re-watch all of the shows that I loved when I was younger. I have watched the first season of 'Daria'. I really want to watch some 'Saved by the Bell'. I absolutely loved that show when I was a kid. I think that I have seen every episode at least twice thanks to 'TBS'. I had the hugest crush on Zach Morris. He was so cute and funny. Still looking for a cute and funny guy, wait I found one. Frank!! haha.
I did some gardening yesterday. I moved some hot pepper plants from the side garden to where the beans and peas are planted. The hot peppers were being eaten by some bugs. Also Frank has been using that garden as his big outdoor kitty litter. So far we have 3 peppers growing. One of the pea plants has a pea growing! I can't wait until it is ready! Peas are my absolute fav! I hope to make dill beans this summer. I also want to do something with the peppers. We buy red hot peppers filled with goat cheese from the grocery store. I think I could make those. Having a garden is awesome. I really want to plant more flowers though. I will post pics of the garden tomorrow. Hopefully it isn't raining!

The peas have sprouted!!

This is a pea sprout that I noticed yesterday. Looking good so far. There has been only one pea sprout, but the sun hasn't been out and about lately. It thunderstormed last night! The rain was crazy hard and the lightning lit up outside completely. It was awesome! I love thunderstorms. It is rainy and cold outside right now. I have to try and figure out something to cover those plants. Frank said that there was no way he was going to help with the gardening. So I told him there was no way that I was going to help with fat. He is on a strict diet. This morning he was allowed a plain rice cake, a blueberry and a glass of water. That's it. He is running on a little cat treadmill that I got him right now. He doesn't look happy. But being fit takes work.

Polka dot toenails and Bread!!

Well, the bread isn't perfect but it is still pretty damn good! The bottom is a bit moist but if you toast it, AMAZING! I put a little butter and jam on a big thick slice, it is to die for! Way better than store bought bread. I am on my way to being a master baker. Master baker....that is what I said. pervert. Geez.
I painted the toenails, finger too! Green with white polka dots. I think they look cute. Aren't you all happy I am without a job, otherwise who else's toes would you be reading about. I am going to take some more pictures this afternoon. I noticed some more sprouts this morning. We might be getting some frost tonight, so I have to find something to cover my strawberries and peppers. I don't want them to die. I think I might weave plastic bags together and get Frank to hold them all night. His contribution to the garden, other than his shit and piss. We'll see.

Happy Earth Day!!

This is my rant from Tumblr. I thought it was a pretty good rant, so posted it here. Remember to Recycle, folks!!

I took this picture of one of the flowers in my garden. I am going to plant a vegetable/fruit garden in May. Trying to do my part. I watched ‘Food Inc.’ last night(well half of it) on PBS’ POV. I have been dying to see it. The part that I saw was about genetically modified seeds and lawsuits between Monsanto and farmers. It is pretty crazy how much we don’t know about the food we eat. I have always been on/off again vegetarian, eating meat is convenient. My family and my boyfriends family are all big meat eaters. They have all known me during my veggie phases, but it is still an effort. Day to day I never ate meat, except at restaurants. I have never felt very confident cooking meat. Since I moved in with my meat-loving boyfriend I have been experimenting with cooking meat. I still believe that I shouldn’t be eating meat. But, if I am going to eat meat then I want the best and I want to know where it comes from. It is scary when you look at the piece of beef on your plate and imagine its journey from “farm” to your plate. We need to be realistic about our food and stop pretending that everything is how we think it is or how we have grown up knowing it is. It’s not! Modern day farms are almost non-existent and steadily on the decline. People of my generation are living in cities, relying on big business to supply them their food. We need to take back the soil! If you want to live green then move to where it is green!

Now, keep in mind that this is my opinion on the morning of Earth Day, after watching ‘Food Inc.’, I have moved out of the city but I am not going to live on a farm. It would be nice to have more property and maybe raise something. But that isn’t really the plan just yet. Time will tell. But I do think that with everyday I am becoming more and more of an advocate.

BUT, most importantly, do what you can do. Wherever you are. Even if you do one ‘green’ thing a day at the end of the year you have done 365! That is a lot! We are all capable.

Okay, rant done!!

A big pile of rocks?!

I haven't posted in awhile. I deleted my facebook and ever since haven't been on the internet that much. I check my email but that is about it. NOT ANY MORE!! I want to post a lot more on this blog. We have been doing a lot of things outside. We cleaned up the big pile of rocks. That's right, there was a big pile of rocks to clean up. I think I have a picture of it. Wait. I will look for it. I found it. That pile was in the front yard. James took out the stone fireplace in the living room, like a year or more ago, he piled the rocks just off the front deck. We got a wheel barrel(barrow). It is so handy to have one. Who knew!! The rocks have been moved to the back yard. I weeded the garden. I also dug up one of the smaller gardens. I pulled out the biggest root of all time. That garden is going to be the vegetable garden. I have to go somewhere and buy some seeds and start to grow them inside. I found Frank laying in the garden a couple of times. He also tried to pee in one of the gardens. Stupid cat. I read somewhere that you can put lemon peels in the garden to keep cats out. He has found a patch of wild mint outside that he goes nuts over. He licks, eats and rubs his face all over it! Too cute!!!

I hate littererssss!!!

I walked into "town" today. I had to get one of those tax-book-thingys. It took me about 35 minutes to get downtown. Pretty good. Went for a coffee at the local cafe/flower shop.(!?) Yeah, B-ville has two of them? Weird. It is middleage/old lady central. It is fun to sit, listen, and write down the weird things that they say. They are so different than my age group. Compliment your face/talk behind your back. Yikes!
When I was walking I was really appalled at all of the garbage on the side of the road. Where does it come from? People walking? I think it is the people driving by. They throw it out the window!! Horrible. When I go for a walk on the side road by my house there are beercans or empty mickeys every 10 feet or so. Huh? why? Seems strange. I picture a single man in a pick up truck. He is on his way home from?...somewhere....and he likes to drink....and drive. Vodka and beer relax him....driving stressed him out. Yikes...maybe I shouldn't pick a different road. Would it be crazy if I took a bag and wore some gloves on my next walk? Do my part. I hate seeing the garbage. Makes me angry. DAMN YOU GARBAGE!!!
whoa. okay...
Tomorrow I am going to take some pics of the garden. I still have to cut out some weeds and hoe it up.
So the other night I let Frank outside. He was out for awhile and it was getting dark out. I went to the back door...not there, the front door...not there. So I went to the side of the house, calling his name. He was over at the neighbours. He was lying on their front steps, like it was his house. When I called his name he came running and meowing. It was like he knew he was doing something wrong. Funny cat.

Spring is on its way!!!

I am very excited about springtime. The last week has been beautiful and sunny everyday. This weekend is supposed to be 7 degrees! For the first time ever I am going to garden this year. I have never had the space, always in an apartment. I've always wanted to grow herbs and flowers. I have two flower beds at the side of the house. Both get lots of sun and are a nice size. The smaller one is going to be veggies and fuit. The larger one is going to be flowers. I am not sure yet what plants I want to grow. I need to remember to keep it simple. I always have big ideas but then overwhelm myself. I am trying to change that in every area of my life. I will take pictures of the garden and let you know how it is going. Hopefully there won't be too many hiccups. Of course, keep in mind I know nothing about gardening!!
